Chapter 22: The One Religion of God

22.1At this, he showed me a river of water of life, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the Throne of God and the Ram, 2between the main-square of the city and the river, here and there, a Tree of Life producing 12 fruits monthly each yielding its fruit, with the leaves of the Tree for a healing of the nations.
At this, Baha’u’llah shows me his vast knowledge of his teachings about life, emanating their excellence, broadcast by his Revelation of God and the Bab, filling the public domain of divine civilization and his vast knowledge, far and wide, wisdom fruiting the Faiths’ love by the Age each bearing its bounty, with its pages of wisdom curing nations.
3No type of exclusion shall exist any longer.
No type of exclusion shall exist any more.
The Throne of God and the Ram shall be within this city. Its, His, and his servants shall conduct His worship.4They shall see his face, and his name shall be on their foreheads.
His Revelation of God and the Bab fills this divine civilization. Its, His, and his workers led God’s worship from 1844. They saw Baha’u’llah’s appearance and endorsed him.
5Night shall no longer exist.
Ignorance no longer exists.
They shall have no need of lamplight or sunlight—for the Lord God shall enlighten them.
They need no more rituals or ceremonies—for the Lord God is teaching them.
They shall rule into the eras of the eras.
They are leading the old Cycle of Prophecy into the new Cycle of Fulfillment.
6Next, he told me:
Next, Baha’u’llah tells me:
These Words are trustworthy and true.
We Divine Speakers, the Bab and I, are true and genuine.
The Lord God of the Spirits of the Prophets sent His Angel to show His servants what had to flash fast.
In AD 95, the Lord God of us Manifestations of the Prophets sent me His Messenger to reveal to His workers what has just flashed fast.
7Behold, I am coming soon!
Behold, I came in 1863, just after the Bab.
Fortunate is the person who takes to heart the Words of the prophecy in this same short scroll!
Lucky are you readers who take seriously us Divine Speakers in this interpretation of John’s ‘Book of Revelation’!
8Also I, myself John, the hearer and seer of these visions—even as I heard and saw—fell to worship at the feet of the Angel showing me these visions.
Also I, your author John, the seer and writer of these messages—even while I am seeing and prophesying—humbly submit to worship Baha’u’llah telling me these messages.
9But he tells me:
But he tells me:
Look, don’t!
Look, John, stop!
As your fellow-servant, I myself am also of your brothers the Prophets and of those taking to heart the Words in this same short scroll.
As your Baha’i Fellow, I am also of your Fellow-Prophets and of your readers taking seriously the Bab and me as Divine Speakers in your ‘Book of Revelation’.
Worship God!
Worship God [not us, His Mirrors]!
10Then he tells me:
Then he praises me:
Do not seal up the Words of this prophecy in this same short scroll.
John, you have not hidden us Divine Speakers in this interpretation of your ‘Book of Revelation’.
For the time is near.
For its time has come.
11Let the wrongdoer still do wrong and let the depraved still act depraved.
Wrongdoers are still doing wrong and depraved persons are still acting depraved.
Meanwhile, let the good person still do good and let the faithful person still be faithful.
Meanwhile, good people are still doing good and faithful people are still being faithful.
12Listen, I am coming soon, with my award of myself with me, to reward each person as his or her work is
Listen, I came just after the Bab, with my award of myself with me, to reward each of you as your doings deserve
13I myself, The A and The Z, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the Ending.
—I Baha’u’llah, The Founder and the Fulfiller of the One Religion of God, His First-to-Last Manifestation, the Opener of His new Cycle of Fulfillment and the Closer of His old Cycle of Prophecy.
14Fortunate are those who wash their robes and carry out their commands, so that their right to the Tree of Life shall take effect and they may enter the city though these gates.
Lucky are you who refine your virtue and obey my teachings, so that your right to divine wisdom takes effect and you are living divine civilization fully through its ways of loving wisdom.
15Dogs outside!—namely the sorcerers, the fornicators, the murderers, the idol-worshipers, and all the lovers and creators of falsehood.
Depraved persons stay away!—namely the drug-dealers, the exploiters, the killers, the profiteers, and all the lovers of and dealers in deceit.
16I myself, Jesus, sent my Angel to witness to you these visions about and for the churches.
I, Jesus, sent my Messenger Baha’u’llah to vouch to you Messengers and readers these messages about and for your Faiths.
I myself am the root and the shoot of a beloved David, the shining Dawn-Star, 17the Spirit and the bride.
I, Baha’u’llah, am the source and the successor of the beloved Bab, the brilliant Teacher dawning the new Day, God’sManifestation and promised Baha’u’llah.
The Spirit and the bride say: ‘Come!’
I, God’s Manifestation and promised Baha’u’llah, say: ‘Welcome!’
Let you who hear reply: ‘Come!’
Let you who understand reply: ‘Welcome!’
Let you who thirst come.
Let you truth-seekers come.
Let you who desire, receive water of life, freely.
Let you willing people read my teachings about life, for free.
18I myself swear to all who hear the Words of this prophecy in this same short scroll:
If anyone add to them, God shall add to him or her the afflictions spelt out in this same short scroll! 19If anybody take away from the Words in the short scroll of this same prophecy, God shall take away from his or her share in the Tree of Life and from the holy city spelt out in this same short scroll.
I myself swear to all who hear us Divine Speakers in this interpretation of John’s sameBook of Revelation’:
If its author has overplayed us, God shall overplay him or her with the afflictions announced in John’s sameBook of Revelation’! If he of she has underplayed us Divine Speakers in theBook of Revelation’ of John’s same interpretation, God shall underplay his share in its divine wisdom and in the unique divine civilization announced by John’s sameBook of Revelation’.
20Speaking is the one witnessing to these visions.
Speaking is Baha’u’llah vouching for these messages:
Yes, indeed, I am coming soon. Truly so!
Yes indeed, I came just after the Bab. Truly so!

Tomb of St. John. He died around AD 100

22.1 & 17, also 7.17; A River of Life: The hundreds of Bibles worth of Baha’u’llah’s Writings form a scintillating river of everlasting life that hath flowed from…the pen of the merciful…whose waters have streamed forth from…the throne as rivers of Divine utterance to the Most Great Ocean as the Tablets of God. One shower of the ocean quickens the dead souls in the desert of ignorance with the spring of intelligence True servants of God partake of the life-giving waters of reunion and drink of the soft-flowing river of immortality.[1]
22.2, 14 & 19, also 2.7: The Tree of Life: Wisdom is a tree of lifeWing then thy flight unto this divine TreeThe Tree of Life and partake of its fruits. From the seed of reality religion has grown into a tree which has put forth leaves and branches, blossoms and fruit.…The seed of reality must be sown again in human hearts in order that a new tree may grow therefrom and new divine fruits refresh the world. The Essenes used the Tree of Life to guide their calendar and morning and evening communions. For them, its seven roots stood for the earthly mother and her angels of sun, water, air, earth, life, and joy, and its seven branches stood for the heavenly father and his angels of power, love, wisdom, eternal life, creative work, and peace.[2].Its fruit…knowing God and love for God.It is the highest degree of the world of existence: the position of the Word of God…the Reality of Christ and of Baha’u’llah…the Shechinah. Through the power of the divine springtime, the downpour of the celestial clouds and the heat of the Sun of Reality, the tree of life is just beginning to grow. Before long, it will produce buds, bring forth leaves and fruits, and cast its shade over the East and the West.
22.2: As the Healer of Infirmities, Baha’u’llah proclaims: I am the falcon on the hand of the Almighty. I bear healing in My wings.[3]
22.3–5: Those on whose foreheads Thy most exalted pen hath written: ‘These! The people of Bahá. Through them have been shed the splendors of the light of guidance’.[4]
22.14: Blessed is the affrighted one who took refuge under the shadow of My domes! Blessed is the ear which heard, the tongue which witnessed, and the eye which beheld and knew the soul of the Lord.Blessed is whosoever adorned his head with the Wreath of My love! To elucidate these words…none is given to quaff even a dewdrop thereof unless he entereth within this city, so open…the gates![5]
22.15: People, ravenous as the dogs, have gathered around carrion, and contented themselves with the stagnant waters of a briny lake. But never will the barking of dogs deter the nightingale from warbling its melodies.[6]
22.16: The plural to you (humin) is not John[7]but may mean Messengers, us readers, or other parties.
22.16, also 2.3, 3.7 & 5.5: The title root and shoot of a beloved David and the prior titles lion of Judah and key of a beloved David all fit the genealogy of Baha’u’llah as a man called the ‘Shoot’ who shall sprout up and build the Temple of the Lord…and sit on his Throne and rule.[8]
22.16, also 2.28: The title Dawn-Star fits the Bab as the Morning Star heralding the glorious Dawn of…the appearance of the Manifestation of God. Dawn-Star also fits Baha’u’llah shining forth resplendent from the firmament of justice…above the horizon of Iraq…blinding bright, with the intense…glory of the heavenly Day-Star, since the heaven of righteousness has no star…brighter than this.[9]
22.17, also 7.17, 21.6 & 22.1: This Day…the rushing waters of everlasting life have gushed out of the Will of the All-Merciful.…Come unto Me, O ye who are thirsty, and drink from this sweet Water which is descending in torrents upon all parts of the globe…the water of life from Christ the Eternal Spring.…The fountain of knowledge is gushing, drink ye these waters of everlasting life…proffered unto men.[10]
22.20, also 1.2: The Angel is witnessing to (meaning saying he saw/heard) this Word of God. Secondarily, John is also witnessing (meaning seeing/hearing) this Word of God.
22.20, also 1.6–7, 5.14, 7.12 x 2, 19.4, & 20: Revelation closes with Amen! (Truly!), even though Temple prayersdid not.
Subscription: ‘A Revelation, John’ is the typical traditional inscription of title and author name that closes Greek scrolls.
